The MBA reports that pandemic-related loss mitigation options have pushed forbearance levels lower, as mortgage performance remains strong with post-forbearance workouts increasing in March.

For the third consecutive month, the nation’s forbearance rate has remained relatively flat, with new forbearance requests and re-entries being reported at nearly the same pace as exits.

With nearly 470,000 nationwide currently in forbearance plans, strong employment numbers are helping homeowners regain their financial footing despite lingering inflationary concerns.

The number of U.S. loans in forbearance fell once again, with as an estimated 590,000 homeowners remaining in forbearance plans nationwide.

The number of homeowners in forbearance plans fell further in December, as the MBA estimates that just 705,000 U.S. homeowners are currently in some stage of forbearance.
